“Bihar doesn’t have its own jets, helicopters, so why did BJP object to buying them?”: Tejashwi Yadav

‘Government should reconsider its decision. It looks like jets and helicopters will be used to move around the country to campaign against PM Modi for the 2024 general elections,” he added.

Patna: Amid controversy over the decision to buy new jets, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that Bihar is a state which does not have its own jet aircraft or helicopters and the planes or helicopters used by the state government earlier were on lease. So why the objection of BJP?
Tejashwi’s question came after BJP leader Sushil Modi criticized the Bihar government’s decision to purchase jet aircraft as inappropriate and the state should reconsider the decision. “Bihar is a state which does not have its own (jet) aircraft or helicopters.

Earlier the planes or helicopters used by the state government were on lease. Why is BJP objecting to it,” said Tejashwi Yadav.

Earlier in the day, BJP leader Sushil Modi said state governments are no longer buying jets and leasing them.

“The approval of the state government for the purchase of helicopters and jets is not appropriate. Now, state governments do not buy them and instead they are taken on lease. Tejashwi Yadav thinks he will be the next Chief Minister, that’s why jets and helicopters were brought under his pressure,” said Sushil Modi.

‘Government should reconsider its decision. It looks like jets and helicopters will be used to move around the country to campaign against PM Modi for the 2024 general elections,” he added.

Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet) S Siddharth said on Tuesday that the Bihar government has decided to purchase jet engine aircraft and advanced helicopters to replace faulty aircraft for movement of top political officers and senior bureaucrats.

In a meeting chaired by him, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved the Civil Aviation Department’s proposal to purchase new aircraft for long-haul travel and purchase helicopters for government use to replace old aircraft and faulty helicopters. This was one of the seven proposals discussed and approved by the Cabinet.

After repairs, the old aircraft and helicopters will be used for training and tourism.
The process of procuring new jet engine aircraft and helicopters will begin after the committee submits its report to the government.
