Panaji: Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee on Friday linked ‘fish and football’ to Bengal and Goa, saying they would not allow the Center to become a ‘grandfathering’ in the state. The West Bengal chief minister, however, said he was not there to seize power in the state or become Goa’s chief minister.
“Delhi’s Dadagiri Anik Naka (no more bullying from Delhi). “I am not an outsider, I do not want to be the Chief Minister of Goa,” Banerjee said in her first speech in Panaji in Konkani.
“I am Indian, I can go anywhere. If Bengal is my homeland, then Goa is my homeland… I came to Goa, they spoil my posters. They (BJP) have mental pollution. They showed me black flags, I said hello, ”said Mamata Banerjee.
In Goa, several hoardings with pictures of Mamata Banerjee were dismantled before her visit, sparking a heated exchange between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
Mamata Banerjee, who is on a three-day visit to the coastal state, arrived in Goa on Thursday evening. On Friday, actress Nafisa Ali joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa to give a big boost to the party ahead of next year’s elections.
“We believe in democracy and Goa is beautiful. I am here to help, not to seize power. You love fish, we love fish. You love football, Bengal loves football, ”said Mamata Banerjee.
Mamata Banerjee was accompanied by former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Falero, TMC MP Derek O’Brien and local leaders.
After a landslide victory in the Bengal elections, the TMC is trying to increase its national footprint and has entered Goa.
On Saturday, Mamata Banerjee will hold a press conference followed by a visit to the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa and the Bogeshwar Temple in Mhapsa.
