New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today congratulated Eli Cohen on his appointment as Israel’s Foreign Minister and said they look forward to working together.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Congratulations @elicoh1 on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Israel. Looking forward to working together.” Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Israel. Taking to his Twitter handle, PM Modi said that he looks forward to working together to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Heartiest congratulations to @netanyahu for forming the government. We look forward to working together to strengthen our strategic partnership.”

Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn in as Israel’s prime minister in hopes of creating political stability after elections starting in 2019, The Times of Israel reported. He was sworn in after Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, passed a vote of confidence in his new government.
Out of 120 members, 63 voted in favor of the new government. According to the Times of Israel, Netanyahu is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister and this will be his sixth government.

The new cabinet appointed by Netanyahu consists of 31 ministers. Yoav Galant has been appointed as Israel’s Minister of Defense and Yariv Levin has been appointed as Israel’s Minister of Justice. The new cabinet includes Yoav Kishch, Shlomo Karhi, Nir Barkat, Haim Katz and others.

Addressing the Knesset plenum before the vote of confidence, Netanyahu laid out three top priorities for his new government, including halting Iran’s nuclear program, rebuilding the state’s infrastructure and restoring internal security and governance, The Times of Israel reported.

In November, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Netanyahu on his victory in Israel’s general election. He tweeted, “Mazel tov my friend @netanyahu for your election success. I look forward to continuing our joint efforts to further strengthen the India-Israel strategic partnership.
