Opposers’ march in Adani Row, big clash with police near Parliament

A march by leaders of 18 opposition parties demanding an inquiry into the Adani dispute was stopped by the Delhi Police as it started from Parliament this afternoon. NDTV.

Opposition leaders are trying to march on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi to press for a probe into the Adani-Hindenburg case.

Ahead of the march, the Delhi Police put up barricades and deployed heavy troops to prevent protest leaders from moving towards Vijay Chowk.

It is learned that Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP will not participate in this march.

The group has denied the allegations and called them “malicious”, “baseless” and a “calculated attack on India”.

The Supreme Court has constituted a six-member committee of experts to examine the issues arising out of the stock crash. The committee has been tasked with making an overall assessment to make investors more aware and suggest measures to strengthen regulatory measures for the stock market.

The Adani Group has welcomed the Supreme Court’s order, with Chairman Gautam Adani saying “it will be final in a time-bound manner” and “truth will prevail”.

While a group of opposition parties has welcomed the Supreme Court’s order, another group, including the Congress, has insisted on a probe through a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The government has objected to the opposition’s demand for a JPC inquiry and Rahul Gandhi’s statement in London. There was confusion in Parliament. The first three days of the second phase of the budget session saw frequent disruptions and frequent adjournments.
