Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi will soon launch a new K-series handset. The company, however, had earlier confirmed the launch of a new model under the Redmi K50 series with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. Several reports suggest that the Redmi K50S series will debut with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship chipset. However, Xiaomi today confirmed that they will soon launch the Redmi K50 Extreme Edition phone with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The device will debut in China later this month. However, the company has not yet said anything about whether the K50 Extreme Edition will be unveiled in the global market. Let’s find out what information has come out about the launch of this upcoming Redmi phone.
Redmi K50 Extreme Edition comes with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
The Redmi K50 Extreme Edition will debut as the fourth smartphone in the K50 series. However, the device will be the first model in the lineup to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 flagship processor. However, apart from the processor name, Redmi has not revealed any other information about the upcoming smartphone. However, the Redmi K50 Extreme Edition is believed to be the K50S series phone that was rumored to launch in China. Xiaomi has not clearly confirmed or denied the launch of the Redmi K50S series. So the K50S series and K50 Extreme Edition are likely to be launched together.
Incidentally, the K50S series may consist of two devices – K50S and K50S Pro. This series may be relaunched in the global market as Xiaomi 12 series. It is expected that most of the specifications of the global models will be similar to the Chinese ones. The K50 Extreme Edition may sport a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will probably use a 4,700mAh battery, which will support 67W or 120W fast charging.
Note that if the Redmi K50 Extreme Edition is the previously mentioned Redmi K50S Pro, then this phone might have a 200-megapixel HP1 primary camera on the rear panel. Also, its camera setup will have an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. Redmi is expected to launch a base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There will also be another variant of this phone, which will have 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The K50 Extreme Edition is expected to run on Android 12 based MIUI 13 custom skin.
