Apollo Tires, the country’s leading tire manufacturer, has launched specialty tires for electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers under two new sub-brands. The company’s Emperion brand of tires has been launched primarily targeting electric passenger vehicles. Eg – Tata Nexon, MG ZS EV. And another is Wav, which is designed for electric bikes or scooters.
Features of Apollo Amperion Tyres
Apollo’s Amperion range of tires are available in 195mm and 215mm sizes. They can be used on SUVs with 16 and 17 inch rim wheels. The tire has received a Dutt five-star BEE rating for low rolling resistance and good grip on wet roads.
The company claims that Empyrean tires will improve the range of electric vehicles by at least 8%. On top of this, these tires contain a resin compound that helps reduce frictional forces on the road surface. Also, the grip of the wheels will be greatly improved as a result. The extra torque in an electric car will be under the driver’s control. These tires seem to be durable enough to carry the extra weight of battery powered vehicles.
Apollo Wav Tires feature
This Apollo tire is mainly designed for battery powered scooters and bikes like Ather 450X, TVS iQube or Bajaj Chetak. Generally battery powered scooters have very high initial acceleration torque. Hence, improved grip power has been given in this tire of Apollo. As more electric motorcycles hit the market in the future, Apollo has revealed plans to introduce a new type of tire for them.
Prices for Amperion and Wav brand tires are yet to be announced. However, they are expected to cost 5 percent more than Apollo’s tires for conventionally fueled vehicles. The new range of tires will reach the company’s dealers and distributors spread across India. Apart from this, direct deliveries will be made to existing EV manufacturers in the country, said Apollo Tire.
By the way, Apello is not the only company that has developed tires specifically for electric vehicles. Earlier, SEAT had launched a tire called Energy Drive for electric four-wheelers. JK Tires also introduced Ranger HPE tires for electric trucks, buses and passenger cars.
