Thane. The widening of the road above Pokhran Road No. 1 has been surrounded by serious controversy. BJP corporator Archana Manera has alleged that the corporation has reduced the width of the road from 40 meters to 48 meters in the Development Plan (DP) to benefit a large company. After presenting the matter to the General Assembly, now Mayor Naresh Mhaske has ordered an inquiry and a report within 10 days.
In the general body meeting, Archana Manera had asked whether the commissioner has the right to increase or decrease the road in the development plan. At that time, the officials of the urban development department did not give any direct answer. Officials, however, acknowledged that the commissioner has no authority to increase or decrease the road as per the rules. After this, Councilor Manera said that the width of the road approved in the DP has been increased from 40 to 48 meters near the entrance of his scheme to benefit a large company.
The widening was approved by the General Assembly
When this matter came up in the general meeting, all the corporators present in the general meeting were stunned. During the tenure of the then Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal, Pokhran Road no. One is built 40 meters wide. Dividers were to be installed at 20 out of 40 meters. But for the benefit of a large group that has been working for years, the road to Samtanagar was actually widened to 48 meters. Noting the hall, he said that the road from Cadbury Signal to Vartaknagar in particular is 20 feet and Vartaknagar to Cadbury Signal is 28 feet. The widening was not approved by the Standing Committee or the General Assembly.
Demand for action against officers
The increased width of the road has not been approved by the Standing Committee and the General Assembly, he said. In such a case, by whose order has this illegal road widened. Corporator Manera asked, why did the corporation finally spend eight meters on the extra road? He also demanded action against the officials responsible for this. Finally, Mayor Naresh Mhaske directed the administration to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report within ten days.
